From Tragedy to Triumph: Embracing Life and Love by Theresa Du Toit

I moved from South Africa to Dubai 16 years ago to start a new adventure in my life. My darling husband of 30 years passed away due to tongue cancer 4 years earlier, and I decided it was time to explore new horizons.

Four years after creating a new life for myself in Dubai, I met a wonderful man through mutual friends. We fell in love and got married at the end of February 2013. We were blissfully happy until one morning, 2 years and 4 months later, he stepped off his quad bike in the desert while biking with a friend and dropped dead. I received the dreaded phone call with the news that my darling had died in the desert, and in that moment, my heart shattered into a million pieces once again. Never in my wildest dreams did I expect that I would not see him alive again when I kissed him goodbye that fateful morning. Once again, the journey of navigating through the grieving and healing process lay ahead of me. I took a year out from working, allowing myself to mourn and grieve the loss. I believe it's important to allow our emotions free reign when going through such a trauma so that healing can take place, and complete restoration can follow, and life can be embraced again.

I cried buckets full of tears! Ugly cries!!!!! I had to deal with all the firsts: first birthday, first anniversary, first time going to the supermarket alone, and I wore my sunglasses often when I had to go out. Driving on the road, my heart was so broken and sad, and yet the world carried on, oblivious of my deep loss, tears streaming down my cheeks. During this time, I focused on the wonderful memories I had, my faith carried me, and I poured out my emotions in my journal, just as I did when my first husband passed away. Just like then, I had amazing loving friends who supported me on so many levels! Life moved on, and I embraced it with excitement because life is always worth celebrating! What a beautiful gift to have friends and family in our lives that stand by us in our times of need!

For the past 9 years, I have been celebrating life and love by conducting fabulous wedding ceremonies for couples, not only here in the UAE but also in Greece, South Africa, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Bosnia Herzegovina, and Mauritius! As I love love and marriage, I get to share words of life, love, and wisdom with them, equipping them with wisdom to build beautiful, happy, love-filled marriages, causing them to be more in love with each other with each passing year! I get to hear their fabulous love stories, and that's why I call myself a Happiness Merchant! My couples know me as The Love Queen!

As an inspirational speaker, I share from the heart and my own personal experiences because I believe in authenticity. Women can relate to this as it touches their hearts, and they can identify with it. In a world filled with superficiality, authenticity is a breath of fresh air.

I have been a guest on several international podcasts, was interviewed by Gulf News, and last year a short film was made about my life in celebration of International Women's Day. The theme was: Ordinary Women Extraordinary Stories! Here is the link:

As a life coach to women, I love taking them on a wonderful journey of discovery no matter the issue they are struggling with. Most of our beliefs are downloaded into our subconscious minds in the first seven years of our lives, which become the lens through which we view every aspect of our lives. Depending on what we experienced growing up, those beliefs are what cause our behavior, reactions, and how we view ourselves—whether we think we are worthy of love and to be loved, or whatever the case may be. It's so wonderful to show these women the actual truth of who they really are and see how their faces light up when they suddenly have these AHA moments! I give them the tools to guide them along the way and to relish their absolute fabulousness!

I have always believed life should be celebrated, for life and love are always worth celebrating! No matter what we have gone through, we are not to stay victims at all, but we are the Creators of our lives! I have discovered the importance of cultivating a positive mindset, and I believe that we all are absolutely amazing, we all have greatness and genius within us, and that we live in a wonderful world of endless possibilities! Every one of us has a beautiful light to shine wherever we go, and the world is waiting with bated breath for each one of us to sprinkle our unique magic dust!

WHAT A WONDERFUL WORLD THIS IS!
